Asst. Prof. Arif Mithat Amca
Arif Mithat Amca obtained his undergraduate degree from Department of Mathematics at Middle East Technical University (Ankara, Turkey). After his graduation, he has started to study on sport biomechanics and he received his MSc and PhD degrees from Faculty of Sport Sciences at Hacettepe University (Ankara, Turkey). In his graduate degrees, he focused on biomechanics of rock climbing and performed research on body positioning of climbers, grip techniques and relationship between hold types and finger force capacities. During his PhD, he visited the Faculty of Sport Sciences at Aix-Marseille University (Marseille, France) for a year and worked with French climbers as a part of his thesis. After his PhD, he continued postdoctoral study on dynamics of campus board training in the Institute of Sport at the University of Chichester (Chichester, UK). Arif Mithat Amca is a member of The International Rock Climbing Research Association (IRCRA) and continues to research on rock climbing in collaboration with international researchers. His main research interests involve biomechanics of sport movements (analysing performances, dynamic modelling and optimization) and hand/grip biomechanics. Since he has been climbing for many years and practising skiing, cycling and running, he is always keen to pursue research on these sports.
